The Boarding House is a home away from home. Prince Alfred College has a reputation for excellence and we believe that boarding is a vital part of that reputation. The high standards embraced by the College are epitomised by our structured and supportive environment.
The Prince Alfred College new state of the art Boarding House was completed and opened in June 2019.
A significant advantage of the new Boarding House’s design has been the integration of all of the boys within one building, following the transition from our old facilities, which accommodated boys over four separate wings. Moving into one building, has enhanced the already strong community and brings us together as one.
The four-story boarding facility, enables us to provide a state-of-the-art residential building and grounds, which provides accommodation for 150 students, plus staff and their families. This has provided us with an opportunity to work on designing a building which suits the social and educational needs of boys and enables our boarding students to thrive.
Our new boarding facility offers a combination of twin-share and single rooms, with the inclusion of ensuite bathrooms. We offer tutorial meeting rooms, break out areas, music practice studios and a large common area with fully equipped kitchen for snacks and light meals only, which opens out to one of two open area courtyards.
The College prepares and provides all meals for boarders during Term time in the campus Dining Room, including: breakfast, recess, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea and supper. On weekends, breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided.
A key part of the architectural design has been the incorporation of the Adelaide stone which will tie the new building with the existing buildings of the College.
Boarding at Princes now has a new home, a home which reflects the positive nature and strong sense of community which has been built over our 150-year history.
