Performing Arts Update

The third annual Music Retreat took place at the start of the new school year on 27 January. Nearly eighty boys enjoyed a day of workshops and rehearsals, as well as a special performance and talk from guest artist Kym Purling. Boys were captivated by Kym’s musical and personal journey which he discussed in detail, from Adelaide University to Las Vegas alongside American music heavyweights, then to Broadway, Paris, and much more. His stories were underscored with his legendary jazz piano. Students and staff were certainly inspired for the year to come.

With Week 3 of Term 1 now coming to a close, our music ensembles have already given three assembly performances and entertained guests at two parent information events with more to follow next week. It is a credit to the ensembles and boys involved that they are ready to perform so early in the year. We also have some high profile events coming up later in the term - the Seymour College Summer Alfresco concert, where the newly-formed combined Princes Seymour Vocal Ensemble will perform in Week 6, followed by the ANZ Community Ball in Week 7 for Big Band 1. It’s all systems go for the Performing Arts staff and boys involved!

The ANZ Community Ball on 13 March will see Big Band 1 share the stage with jazz maestro James Morrison and his band at this prestigious black-tie event. They will then play the next day at Stompin’ at the Capri, our very own Fringe show at the Capri Theatre alongside three other top tier school big bands.
