Prince Alfred College Libraries

The Preparatory School and Secondary School each benefit from their own library with a wide range of resources.

Preparatory School Library

More than a place for books, the library is a vibrant learning hub that plays a central role in nurturing boys’ language and literacy development. It strengthens oral language, supports student wellbeing, and fosters positive reading habits, encouraging boys to see reading as a valued, enjoyable and meaningful part of their learning. A distinctive feature of our Preparatory School is our dedicated library, supported by two full-time librarians.

The library also provides a welcoming environment that supports a range of learning experiences, from quiet reading to collaboration. Boys have access to high-quality, age-appropriate resources that challenge and inspire, while library programs and close collaboration with classroom teachers foster early research skills and increasing independence in learning. Through personalised guidance in reading, research and inquiry, boys develop the confidence, curiosity and critical thinking skills needed to thrive as independent learners and build strong foundations for future academic success.

The Keeves Library - Secondary School

The Keeves Library is a welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring space that supports various teaching and learning modes and specifically nurtures the development of our students to become motivated and independent learners.

The Keeves Library was redeveloped in 2021 and honours the late Professor John P. Keeves AM (1924-2020), an exceptional scholar, educator and proud Old Red.

The entrance to the library is an inviting, interactive social zone that houses our help desk, printing station, and various library displays. It also features a vibrant abstract mural The Path We Choose created by local artist Kellie Fergusson. Adjacent to the entrance are two study cubicles fitted with whiteboards and acoustic wall panels that reduce noise and support individual or small group work. The teaching space is equipped with a large projector and furnished with contemporary modular seating Dulili, an Indigenous word meaning “together”, that is conducive not only to teaching but also to meeting, discussion, and collaborative learning. An additional collaboration zone is in the centre of the library, and is surrounded by books that are within easy reach. The library also provides single study carrels with beautiful views of the Adelaide Hills and abundant natural light. This is a quiet zone where students can recharge while studying.

The library houses a modern genrefied, physical and online collection of more than 18,000 fiction and non-fiction titles. This is complemented by a robust database collection that supports research and information literacy programs for students in Years 7-12.

Our dedicated team supports students in developing their reading identity and connecting with information relevant to their needs. We offer a range of library programs for students in Years 7-10, including the Tutor Book Reading Program. Senior SACE and IB students are also well supported in their individual research projects.

The library hosts a variety of competitions and celebrates events fostering strong connections with other faculties across the school.
