Boarding House

Our Boarding House provides a home away from home for 150 boys from rural South Australia, interstate and overseas.

Opened in June 2019, our purpose-built Boarding House offers state-of-the-art accommodation and communal areas for students and staff. The facility offers a combination of twin-share and single rooms, with the inclusion of ensuite bathrooms.

Shared spaces include tutorial meeting rooms, break out areas, music practice studios, and a large common area with fully-equipped kitchen for snacks and light meals, which opens out to one of two open area courtyards.

Designed for care and support

With up to 150 boys living together in our Boarding House, we know how important it is that each boy feels cared for and supported both during, and after, school hours.

Residential staff live in the Boarding House to supervise and support our boys social and emotional wellbeing. Key staff within the Boarding House are responsible for groups of boys and oversee the connection between home and boarding life.

We also offer a range of day-to-day support services, including medical, laundry and administrative assistance.

Academic support

Overseeing and supporting your son’s academic development is an essential part of our commitment to being Adelaide’s leading boarding school for boys. Structured and supervised homework sessions give our boys dedicated time to complete study and homework tasks every night.

Our staff work with the College’s year level coordinators to make sure each boy gets the academic support he needs. Boarders have the unique opportunity to get immediate help from peers, academic staff and (if required) outside tutors.

Our academic support program helps our boys adjust to boarding life and develop sound study habits in a supportive educational environment.

While study time is essential, so is sleep. We have strict lights out times for each year level to make sure each boy is rested and ready for school the next day.

Healthy nutrition

We know how important nutrition is for growing boys. Our catering team prepare healthy, filling and delicious meals every day. The boarding menu gives our boys the sustenance they need to support their busy lifestyles and academic success.

Our boarders and boarding staff gather on-campus in the Dining Room for breakfast, recess, lunch and dinner. Boys enjoy a snack after school and supper in the Boarding House after homework. We happily cater for boys with allergies or dietary restrictions.

Pastoral support

We are here to help your son feel safe, secure and valued as part of our Prince Alfred College boarding family. At the heart of this, and embedded in all we do at PAC, is a focus on high-quality pastoral care for our boarding boys.

Our pastoral care program focuses on developing character and compassion as part of your son’s boarding experience, and on nurturing his unique qualities and interests in a safe and caring home away from home.

Our team of educators, counsellors, Chaplain and residential staff work together to provide a safe and supportive place of belonging for every boarder boy.

Medical care

If your son becomes sick, our nursing staff will care for him in our dedicated Health Centre. After hours, our residential team will care for him and make medical appointments if needed. If your son needs prescription medicines, our Health Centre will help coordinate this safely.
