On Thursday 26 May at the State Aquatic Centre, PAC defended its State Swimming title in the A grade division, in a nail biting seven point victory ahead of St Peter’s College (second place) and Trinity College (third place).

This competition had been postponed from Term 1, so many of the boys had not been training regularly. We were also heavily affected by COVID, flu and injuries. It was always going to be a ‘tough ask’. An incredible team effort and ‘will to win’ fighting for every point possible, made for a very exciting finish. At the halfway mark we were sitting third, so the boys had to dig deep and fight hard until the end. Wonderful swims in all of the relay events were very significant. This win would not have been possible without the help of the boys who jumped in at the last minute to support the team.

PAC is now the most successful school in the State, completing its twelfth victory in the 59-year-history and it’s sixth title in a row. Swimming Captain Fergus McLachlan again led the way breaking two state records in the 50m Backstroke and 4x50 Medley Relay (along with Regan Nelson, Liem Tran and Charles Atkins), capping off a fantastic week in which he was named in the Australian Junior Swim team.

The 12-15 year old boys also broke the 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay record - Liem Tran, Julian Hyde-Kelly, Alexander MacDonald and Luca Bacon. Congratulations to all the boys who competed. Congratulations also to Jason Dunlop, Connor Kioussis, Peter Bubner, Felicity Liddy and Deb Trengove for all they did in getting the team prepared for the event. A huge thank you to the many parents who came along to support the boys and barracked hard.
