John Michell was one of the Prince Alfred College Foundation’s original directors. In 1980 he became the first old scholar to hold the office of President – a position he held for 12 years. During this time the Foundation undertook many exciting and productive fundraising campaigns, to help finance a wide range of school projects. One of these raised more than $1,000,000 for projects such as the school’s Sports Centre.
John Michell has been heavily involved in many philanthropic activities during his active commercial life. He is chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Research Foundation, which brings in millions of dollars for medical research in the hospital.
John Michell’s career has been as a world leader in the International Wool Industry. He was chairman of Michell Pty Ltd, a worldwide producer, innovator, developer, and marketer of wool and sheep skins – from the sheep’s back to leading retail stores around the world.
