Richard Broinowski served as Australian Ambassador to Vietnam (1983 to 1985), Korea (1987 to 1989) and, from 1994 to 1997, Cuba and Central American Republics. Other diplomatic postings have included Tehran, Rangoon, Manila and Tokyo.
From 1990 to 1992 Broinowski was General Manager of Radio Australia, before becoming Director of the ABC’s International Services. He has served on the Council of Australians Abroad and the Advisory Board of the Korean Studies Institute.
Educated at the University of Adelaide and Harvard, Richard later became an Adjunct Professor in Media and Communications at the University of Canberra before moving to the University of Sydney.
Richard has written and published three books as well as numerous articles on foreign affairs. In 2019 Richard was appointed an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
