Roger Opie was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Christ Church College in 1951. He subsequently pursued a career in economics in a variety of roles. He was an adviser to the British Government, a commentator for the New Statesman, and editor of The Bankers' Magazine, and an academic at several universities, in particular New College, Oxford University.
