Sir Wallace Bruce was a prominent businessman, civic leader, and Prince Alfred College Old Scholar. After establishing Wallace Bruce & Co. in Adelaide, he built a successful insurance and commission business and served as a director of several major South Australian companies.
Bruce served on the Adelaide City Council from 1916 to 1925 and was Lord Mayor of Adelaide from 1925 to 1927. Respected for his leadership in business and public life, he was knighted in 1927.
During the Great Depression, he chaired a Commonwealth committee investigating unemployment and later became Chairman of the South Australian Harbour Board. He also supported sport and community organisations, serving as a trustee of the South Australian Cricketing Association.
Sir Wallace Bruce died in Adelaide in 1944, remembered for his outstanding service to business, government, and the South Australian community.
