One of the advantages of commencing at PAC in the Preparatory School is the opportunity to experience a smooth and comprehensive transition into Secondary School. Rather than viewing the move to Year 7 as a single event, PAC's transition program is a staged process that begins well before students step into their new classrooms.
Designed specifically around the needs of adolescent boys, the program helps students build familiarity with the Secondary School environment, establish connections with older peers and teachers, and develop the confidence needed to embrace new opportunities and challenges.
The Middle Years coincide with adolescence, a period of rapid growth, exploration and self-discovery. During this time, boys are developing their sense of identity, forming deeper friendships and seeking meaningful opportunities to challenge themselves.
Recognising these unique developmental needs, PAC's Middle Years program is intentionally structured to engage boys as learners while fostering a strong sense of belonging. Every Year 7 student becomes part of a House and Tutor group, creating important anchor points that provide continuity, connection and support throughout their Middle Years journey.
These relationships help boys feel known and valued, while the House system promotes stability as students navigate learning across a broad range of subjects and experiences. Additional support is also available through the College's Academic Support Team and Inclusive Education Coordinator, who work closely with students requiring individualised learning plans.
Boys are encouraged to explore a diverse range of co-curricular activities, develop good study habits, build effective learning strategies and participate in outdoor education and service learning opportunities.
These experiences not only build confidence and resilience but also help boys discover new interests, passions and strengths.
The College's Year 6 to Year 7 transition program is already underway for students preparing to enter Secondary School in 2027. Through a series of planned activities and events, students and families are guided through every stage of the process.
One of the key transition events is the Year 6 to 7 Transition Breakfast. Over breakfast, our Year 6 boys and their parents heard from Secondary School leaders who talked about the structure of the Middle Years program and the range of subjects to choose from. Families also heard from a student-led panel of current Year 6 and 7 boys who discuss the nerves and excitement around this important transition period. Once the boys went to class, parents enjoyed a tour of the Secondary School campus and facilities.
Panel participant and Preparatory School Captain, Wesley said of the breakfast, "After hearing the boys talk about going into Year 7, I feel excited that it will be a fun change. Something that is making me feel confident is that the teachers will support us in as many ways as possible. Overall, the Secondary School sounds really welcoming and will unlock so many opportunities to try new things."
As students move from the Preparatory School into the Middle Years, they do so with the confidence that comes from being part of our connected College community, supported every step of the way as they continue their journey of growth, learning and discovery.
