Student Wellbeing

Being Well By Design

At Prince Alfred College, we believe that wellbeing is not simply a program that can be delivered, but a culture that must be intentionally built and collectively nurtured. In 2026, we launched our new PAC Wellbeing Framework, a community-designed approach that guides how we support the growth, wellbeing and character development of our boys from Reception to Year 12.

Over 18 months, more than 750 members of our community, including students, staff and parents, contributed their perspectives through surveys, focus groups and consultation. Working alongside wellbeing specialists from The Wellbeing Distillery and researchers from Adelaide University, we explored what wellbeing means within our unique community and how we can strengthen it for the future.

The output is the PAC Wellbeing Framework.

Character & Values

At Prince Alfred College, wellbeing begins with character. Our bespoke Wellbeing Framework brings our College values of Respect, Excellence, Belonging and Endeavour to life through four wellbeing pillars: Integrity, Empowerment, Service and Resilience. Together, these pillars provide students with a practical guide for how to live our values every day.

Rather than focusing only on what boys achieve, we place equal importance on who they become. Through positive relationships, service to others, reflection and the development of resilience, students learn to make positive choices, contribute meaningfully to their communities and respond constructively to challenges. This approach supports the growth of young men of character who are prepared to make a positive impact in the world around them.

Wellbeing Curriculum

Our wellbeing curriculum, the Princes Man Program, provides students with explicit opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions that support lifelong skills. Grounded in the science of wellbeing and informed by our community-designed Wellbeing Framework, the curriculum equips boys to understand themselves, build healthy relationships and contribute positively to others.

Across all year levels, students engage with themes such as resilience, emotional awareness, personal growth, friendship, leadership and healthy decision-making. In the Preparatory School, initiatives such as Wellbeing Wednesdays and the URStrong program help boys develop important social and emotional skills. In the Secondary School, wellbeing learning is embedded through behaviour education, mentoring and service learning initiatives, ensuring wellbeing is intentionally developed alongside academic learning.

Wellbeing Program (non-curriculum)

Wellbeing at PAC extends beyond the classroom and is embedded throughout school life. From sport, outdoor education and leadership opportunities to service initiatives and attending wellbeing conferences, boys are encouraged to build confidence, connection and purpose.

Students are also supported through peer-to-peer wellbeing resources, mentoring programs and initiatives designed to strengthen healthy masculine identity. These experiences complement classroom learning by creating practical opportunities for character development and personal growth. Together, they foster a culture where boys feel connected, supported and empowered in all aspects of College life.

Co-designing Wellbeing

Our approach to wellbeing has been shaped by the voices of our community. Through surveys, focus groups and extensive consultation we understand the unique strengths, needs and aspirations of our community.

Wellbeing Partnership Teams in each sub-school continue this collaborative approach, bringing together educators, students, parents and support staff to guide strategic priorities and future initiatives. By co-designing wellbeing, we ensure that decisions are informed by those who experience school life every day, creating a partnership between the school and parents that is meaningful, sustainable and responsive to emerging needs.

To ensure our programs are creating the right opportunities and impact for students, annual Wellbeing Surveys and regular consultation are conducted to measure outcomes and guide future strategies throughout the College.
