Welcome to Winter Intercol 2024
I sense the Olympics have added to the anticipation and excitement around the playing of the 154th Winter Intercol. There are always stories of triumph and disappointment at the Olympics, as our boys from both schools will no doubt experience in the upcoming Intercol fixtures. The father of the modern Olympics - Pierre de Coubertin famously said, “the most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part”. Mr Browning and I, as well as those who have come before us, have always maintained it is the how we take part that must remain central to this friendship and rivalry. How our boys and our supporters continue to uphold the values of both of our great educational institutions is more important as any win on the day.
I thank the Headmaster, Mr Tim Browning, and the St Peter’s College community for their hospitality. I have every confidence that the boys from both schools will again compete with a level of effort and intensity befitting the occasion, but that above all, they will demonstrate sportsmanship and humility, whilst preserving and strengthening the friendship that exists between the two schools. We wish all players, coaches and supporters from both schools well for the 2024 Winter Intercol.
