Nature Play - Every Day

Nature Play - Every Day

With the generous support of Copyworld, our Preparatory School boys are building their creativity, imagination and confidence through a new nature play space.

A pirate theme dress-up was the order of the day for the official opening of the new shipwreck-themed Preparatory School Playground on 20 May 2022, with staff and students getting into seafaring spirit!

Designed by Climbing Tree in conjunction with our Preparatory School students, the new playground provides a fun, challenging and interactive play space that sparks the boys’ imagination. With features including a net climb, log scramble, wobbly bridge, watch tower and crystal list caves (just to name a few!), the new playground is designed to promote strength, balance, agility and collaboration.

“Through their physical play, the boys have benefitted from increasing their muscular strength in the arms, core and legs”, notes John Stewart, Head of Preparatory School. “They can be seen jumping from a height, clinging and scrambling over the traversing wall, or navigating the monkey bars and rope course. As they engage in this physical play, a great deal of role and imaginative play is taking place. The boys can be seen acting out stories from their favourite shows, books or movies. They always seem to have a challenge to solve or treasure to find, and the new play space provides the ideal backdrop for their adventures.”

Suggestions for the name of the new playground were invited from boys across the Preparatory School, creating much excitement and discussion. The four shortlisted names were announced in Assembly, with the ‘Galatea Playground’ ultimately selected. The name was suggested by William Jovicevic (Year 2), who noted “Galatea was the ship that Prince Alfred captained to Australia. It is fitting that his ship should sit in the heart of Prince Alfred College.” We agree, William!
