Opportunities for Every Boy
Music is an integral part of life at Prince Alfred College, from Chapel services and assemblies to concerts within the school and the wider community. It offers boys the opportunity to work together, pursue excellence and experience the joy of playing together. Just as importantly, it provides a lifelong source of enjoyment, wellbeing and connection.
We want every boy who is keen to learn an instrument to have that opportunity. For some families, however, the additional cost of tuition can be a barrier, meaning capable and enthusiastic boys may miss out on an experience that could shape their lives.
At the same time, the strength of our music program depends on balance across the ensembles, including less commonly chosen instruments. Supporting boys in these areas requires both encouragement and access to specialist tuition.
For these reasons, we are seeking to establish an endowed fund to support Instrumental Tuition Bursaries, both now and into the future.
We have already seen the impact this support can make. Thanks to the generosity of an Old Scholar, two boys have begun learning the organ in the College Chapel, which, in time, will enable them to contribute to the musical life of the College through Chapel and Church services.
As the endowment grows, it will expand access, strengthen ensembles, and further enrich the experience of the whole College community. There is also the opportunity to establish a named bursary, creating a lasting legacy that will provide support not just now, but for generations of students to come.
If you would like to help more boys experience the joy of music, please consider a gift to the Prince Alfred College Instrumental Bursary Fund using the secure form below. All gifts are fully tax-deductible and will directly support this initiative.
