Stanford Howard studied at the University of Adelaide and served in France in the Australian Flying Corps during the First World War. In 1919, he was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Balliol College, Oxford. He practised medicine in England, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He was convener of the PAOCA London Branch and his address in London's famous Harley Street was well known to countless Old Reds visiting London.
