Sergeant (Sgt) John Langsford Glasson, 50th Battalion. A surveyor from Kadina, South Australia, prior to enlistment as a Private (Pte) in the 10th Battalion, he embarked with the 13th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 11th January 1916 aboard HMAT Borda for Suez. Shortly after arrival he was transferred to the 50th Battalion which relocated to the Western Front, France, in early June 1916. Private Glasson was wounded in action near Albert, France, and was evacuated to England for treatment, rehabilitation and furlough before rejoining his unit in mid-May 1917. Shortly afterwards he was appointed Lance Corporal and six weeks later promoted to Corporal and attached to the 13th Training Battalion in England for the remainder of the year. He then rejoined the 50th Battalion near Peronne which was followed by promotion to Temporary Sergeant in mid-February 1918. Sergeant Glasson was killed in action near Dernancourt, France, on 5th April 1918 and is buried in the Ribemont Communal Cemetery Extension. He was aged 22 years.
His younger brother, 14995 Private A Glasson, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, 7th Battalion, was killed in action near Fleurbaix, France, on 13th October 1915. Commemorated on Kadina Memorial High School Roll of Honour, South Australia.
