Acting Director of Boarding, Phil Noble discusses Winter holiday news and recent additions to the boarding house.

Holidays
It was wonderful to see the boarding house slowly fill over the weekend and to once again have the wings and common areas full to capacity. I enjoyed hearing from each of the boys about their breaks, the camping and sport, changed holidays, family time and of course how hard they were made to work at times at home. Not sure all of these things were as difficult as they sounded but the overall feeling of being relaxed, connected with family and recharged ready for the term was evident. A big highlight for my family was travelling around through country SA and being able to catch up with a number of boarding families while I showed my kids around where I grew up.

On the day of return I had the opportunity to report to the Boarding Parents Consultative Committee (BPCC) about our Term 2 achievements, activities, staffing changes and completed projects including the trophy display cabinet, honour boards, ICT towers and BPCC funded pizza oven and coffee machine. Some photos of these wonderful additions to the boarding house can viewed in the gallery below. The evening saw our first gathering in the dining hall where our current boarders gave the new boarders a rousing ovation and welcome to the boarding community. The rest of the evening was spent catching up, unpacking bags and talking about some restrictions to sport and gatherings announced earlier in the day.

The holidays has once again seen the majority of our International boarders remain in the Boarding House over the break. Despite the time since these boarders have been able to return home increasing again, the boys remained positive and made the most of the past three weeks. This time allowed the boys every opportunity to refine their basketball skills in the RED Centre as well as taking on the staff and each other in some pretty epic pool table battles. The boys also enjoyed a variety of activities including Go Karting, movies and Yum Cha as well as catching up with their friends on The Parade, in the city and in China Town. When the boys weren’t out, they maximised the downtime in the Boarding House, playing video games and musical instruments as well as reading. It was also pleasing to see some studying taking place. Overall, the Boarding House was a positive place to be as the boarding community spirit was kept alive, thanks to the combined efforts of both the boarders and the staff.
