Boarding Update

News
20 August 2021

In this week's article, Director of Boarding, Phil Noble discusses returning from lockdown, recent Intercol success, upcoming boarders' week events and more.

Life in the boarding house has been very busy since the return from the state lockdown and our boarders have been making the most of these opportunities. We were treated to a great presentation from Jason Grech and his team from Offroad Training Australia, who spoke to our senior boys about upcoming training specialising in 4WD and off-road driving. I was very pleased to see our boarders represented at the academic awards ceremony with the following boys receiving acknowledgement for being top of their respective subjects: Will Manuel, Rupert Fletcher, Dusty Smith, Aedan Bolwell, Kane McAuliffe, Blair Johns, Hayden Wong and David Sun.

This week was very heart-warming and special for my family and I following the Director of Boarding announcement. The genuine display of gratitude and congratulations from the boarding community has been truly rewarding. This week, we have celebrated the success within our community with the PAC Hockey team winning their 6th State Championship in a row, with Archer Rowntree, Kyton Rayner, Brock Wise and Jack Sharman all playing a significant part. We look forward to the boarders representing the College across a number of Winter Intercols, and also getting out there to support this great rivalry with St Peters.

The prefects have been very busy putting the finishing touches on our boarders week events for Week 7 this term. The first event is the Young farmers Challenge on Tuesday 31 August at lunch time where teams will compete in a series of challenges to be crown best in show. The day also forms a major part of our fundraising for Ronald McDonald House and Royal Flying Doctors with our traditional Boarders BBQ with Sausages and drinks available on the day. Then on Thursday 2 September boarders will hand out the Boarders Herald publication before the revival of the Country v City Football Match. This game takes place on the back oval at 4pm where the Year 12 boarders will play the Year 12 Day boys for the Rushton Cup.

Phil Noble
Director of Boarding

The PAC Boarding community was thrilled last week with the announcement of Mr Phil Noble being appointed as our new Director of Boarding. The response from students, boarding families, staff, and the wider PAC community has been overwhelmingly positive. We congratulate Phil on his appointment and look forward to working with him to continue the strong boarding program at PAC.

We also extend a heavy-hearted farewell to Mr Sam Evans, our Gap Assistant of the past 18-months. Sam completed his final shift in boarding on Sunday 15 August and departs at the end of this week, bound for the UK, having accepted a position at the highly esteemed Brighton College. On behalf of the entire PAC Boarding community, we thank Sam for the valuable contribution he has made to the Boarding House, as well as the wider PAC community, and wish him all the best in his future career.

On Sunday of Week 3, we said ‘bon voyage’ to our next group of Year 9 boys as they headed off on the One And All towards Wambana for their 5-week extended stay program. It was pleasing to see several of our other boarders making the early morning trip out to Port Adelaide to see them off. Over the past couple of weeks, we have also had plenty of boys engaging positively with our Activities Program: enjoying joint experiences at Tree Climb, Friday Night Tech, and Golf Day at North Adelaide. Likewise, our boarders have been regularly enjoying each other’s company in-house, keeping a positive atmosphere with games of pool or table tennis, watching AFL together, or playing basketball in the RED Centre.

Finally, we would like to make a special mention to celebrate one of our Year 9 Boarder’s this week. Aryan Madan (of Naracoorte) competed in the SA Junior Age Championships for squash this past Sunday. Winning all seven of his matches to go undefeated for the tournament, Aryan came away as winner of both the U15 and U19 state titles. This continues Aryan’s successful 2021 in squash, having also won the U15 Australian Junior Open in April. Well done, Aryan!

We look forward to seeing you in boarding soon. You can keep up to date by following us on Facebook at Boarding@Princes.
