Week 7 was an exceptional week for boarding with our four events being the best representation of our community in a number of years. I also wanted to share my letter to the prefect and leadership group with the wider school community.
One of the major successes was the 12th Edition of the Boarders' Herald. Senior staff member Will Bittner will have more to say about this below, but the digital edition can be viewed here.
I had an exciting Week 8 which started with a tour of the boarding house with Olympic Gold Medallist and former boarder Alex Hill. After spending three years in boarding, in Hartley, then Fiddian and finally Bayly, Alex was impressed with our new building and thinks he could cope living here again. Mid-week I ran into old scholar Cameron Smith (2019), who is currently studying in Adelaide and enjoying his Chemistry degree, but like many of our interstate families, he is not enjoying the restrictions placed on visiting home more often. The week ended with the Senior School Athletics Carnival, and it was great to see our boarders having a go at the various events. Highlights for me were seeing Gus Bilsborow on the javelin, Dekoda Irvine’s effort in the 400m, George Campbell in the high jump and both Gus Liebich and Captain, Will Charlton competing in the 100 metre Champion of Champions Race. We congratulate Gus Liebich who was award the overall U15 Age Champion for his amazing performances and effort across multiple events.
As we prepare for the next holidays, I want to thank our wonderful school community. We have had so much support from a number of boarding and school families in hosting our international and interstate boarders for different times so they can have a break from boarding, and we can let staff have their first break since January 2020. Any families who would like to look at opportunities for the Term 4 break can contact Ms Deb King our International Students’ Coordinator for more information.
I will once again be spending some time on the Yorke Peninsula in the holidays at The Paskeville Field Days, Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th September (Week 1 of the school holidays). Please drop by and say ‘hello’ if you are around.

Boarders’ Herald
A significant part of our Week 7 celebration of Boarding at PAC was the arrival of the 12th Edition of the Boarders’ Herald. Our Boarding Prefects took pride in delivering copies to each of our boarders during the Monday evening, as well as distributing copies to students and staff in the day school. This year, we have also posted a copy to each of our boarding families, so please keep an eye out for this in your mail! The 2021 edition is a fantastic publication that showcases the many aspects of life in boarding at PAC. We say thank you and congratulations to all the students and staff that contributed to its production, with a special mention of thanks to both the Ellis and Manuel families, and their teams at the York Peninsula Country Times and Plains Producer, for their valued assistance in bringing the Herald to life.
Boarders and Shades of Red
Wednesday 1 September also saw the College launch the 2021 Shades of Red poetry and visual journal. It was wonderful to see published work from the following boarders: Angus Hawkins, Wilfrid Ramsey, Duke Zhang, Joe Grundy, Josh Venning, Mitchell Searle, Sam Desmazures, Harry Piggott, Phil Noble, Yarra Mickan, Sam Heuzenroeder, Tom Dolling, Will Hyde, and William Pointon. Well done to all of these boys, and a particular congratulations to Josh Venning (Year 12) and Harry Piggott (Year 9) who were awarded second and third prize respectively in the poetry category.
Activities
The past few weeks have seen boys engaging with a great variety of Boarding Activities, including Friday Night Tech, movies at Hoyts Norwood, an Escape Room challenge, and mixed netball with Walford Boarding House. Opportunities for training and qualifications have also been available to our boarders, with our first two Year 11 students, Edward and Dekota, taking part in Recreational 4WD Training with Off Road Training Australia at JAKEM Farm in the Adelaide Hills on Sunday. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the day and learnt plenty that they can now take away and apply to their future driving. We now look forward to our upcoming Barista Course for senior boys with the team from Coffee World, then toward another highly engaging activities program for Term 4.
We wish everyone the best for the remainder of Term 3, as well as the upcoming holiday break.
