Celebrating Lifelong Connections

We recently welcomed back to our Early Learning Centre Mrs Mollie Marcus (née Wilkins) in whose honour the Wilkins Room (one of our 2-year old learning spaces) is named. Mollie will shortly celebrate her 90th birthday and this special visit marked the occasion.

The boys and girls sang Happy Birthday and presented Mollie with flowers, and in turn she gave the room a beautiful selection of board books for the children’s enjoyment. Mollie was joined at morning tea by the Headmaster and former students Richard Dennis, David Blanch and Nick Branson (all Year 1 boys in 1963), and Alf Brown who was in her first Year 1 class in 1956. Alf and David brought along their Grade 1 reports for Mollie to sign!

Female staff were a rarity at the College when Miss Mollie Wilkins commenced as a Grade 1 teacher in the Preparatory School in 1956, following the resignation of Miss Enid Angwin (Bennett), who is now aged 91. Mollie remained on staff until 1969, when her son James Marcus (PAC 1977-87) was born.

We thank Mollie for her visit and wish her the very happiest of birthdays.
