Dr Tessa Opie Workshop
Parents will be aware from previous communications that a working party under the leadership of Deputy Headmaster Greg Atterton has been working on the review and development of our programs in the area of respectful relationships. One of the key outcomes has been engaging with an expert in this area, Dr Tessa Opie, to run workshops with students, staff and parents.
We will keep parents informed about other initiatives developed in this area by the working party in the weeks and months ahead.
Secondary School Library/Classrooms Development
Preparation for the Secondary School Library/Classrooms development above the Dining Hall will commence next week, when the builders will be on campus preparing the site for work to commence in the weeks ahead. The area around the Dining Hall will be fenced off with no access through the passageway on the Main Building side of the Dining Hall.
The builders will also be establishing a site for their facilities on the grassed area adjacent to the pickup/drop-off area near the roundabout.
In the weeks ahead, there will be a good deal of traffic associated with this project and we encourage parents to exercise patience and caution if you need to access the site. During this time, we encourage people to pick up and drop off outside the campus where possible.
2022 Term Dates
We had earlier in the year determined to run a 10 week first term next year, with Easter falling in the middle of the first holiday break. However, we have since been advised that the independent girls’ schools with which many of our families have connections will run an 11 week first term, Tuesday 1 February to Thursday 14 April, leading into Easter, so we have amended our dates to align with this.
The 2022 term dates are now available on the College website.
Staffing
Bonnie Wansley, who is currently replacing Matthew Tothill in Year 5 while Matthew is on long service leave, will continue with us in the Early Learning Centre next term. Bonnie will take over the Edgerley class, with Maddy Higgs moving up with those boys who were going into our mid-year Reception class.
We have appointed Harry Postema to cover Mike Ooman's long service leave in Term 4. Harry is one of most highly regarded and respected teachers of Media Studies and Film in the State and is currently Media Arts Tutor at the University South Australia. He was previously a long-serving teacher at Glenunga International High School and also had a brief stint teaching at PAC in the late 1980s.
Fernanda Garcia will join us at the beginning of next term replacing Amelia Norwood while she is on maternity leave. Originally from Argentina, Fernanda has a Bachelor of Teaching in English from the National University of Córdoba. She has taught ESL in Argentina and in Australia and has most recently been employed as a relief teacher. We look forward to welcoming Fernanda to PAC next term.
Eugenia Hernandez will join us shortly as a Co-Educator in the Early Learning Centre. Eugenia has a Degree in Early Childhood Education from the Catholic University of Uruguay and has worked as a Teaching Assistant and Early Childhood Teacher in preschools in Uruguay and Australia.
Andrew Stace will leave us at the end of this year to take up a Senior School Head of House position at St Ignatius’ College. Andrew has given excellent service to the College over the last 14 years as a Teacher of Outdoor Education and more recently Geography, as a Year Level Coordinator, and as a coach and co-ordinator of Hockey. This appointment will enable Andrew to pursue his professional interest in pastoral care leadership and we congratulate him on this appointment.
Tori Steyn will be on leave during Term 3, to join her husband Louis, who is on Naval duty in Sydney. We wish Tori well for her time away with Louis.
ELC Co-Educator Liana Baldasso has resigned from Prince Alfred College, finishing on May 11, 2021. I would like to acknowledge Liana's good work in our ELC over the last five years and her contribution to the success of our programs in this area.
