In this week's article, Headmaster Fenner discusses the Winter Intercollegiate fixtures, the Director of Boarding appointment and more.

Winter Intercollegiate Fixtures
At the time of writing, we have completed the first two days of the Winter Intercollegiate sporting fixtures program. Our rivalry with St Peter's College is of course one of the distinguishing features and cherished traditions of our two schools and the Intercol fixtures are anticipated keenly by the students, and also other members of the College community. Our teams have got off to an excellent start, winning all four sports contested thus far: Soccer, Chess, Rugby and Hockey. In the latter three sports, we are also State Champions.

At the beginning of the week, we hosted lunch for the Prefects of both schools together with Captains of the respective teams. The College Captains spoke on this occasion about the connection between our two schools and the mutual respect that is vital to these events. Overall, we have been very happy with the way both players and spectators have approached these competitions.

Unfortunately, we have had to place restrictions on spectators to ensure that we abide by the current COVID restrictions. Spectators are largely limited to boys and parents and only those with tickets in the form of wristbands are able to attend the remaining events. We look forward to a successful conclusion to this year’s program.

Director of Boarding
I am pleased to advise everyone that we have appointed Phil Noble as Director of Boarding, following a rigorous selection process.

We had a strong field of candidates from throughout Australia for this role and Phil emerged as the best person to lead our boarding program going forward. Phil impressed the selection panel with his commitment to boarding at Princes, his knowledge of boarding gained through his time working in our program and his vision for PAC boarding as the leading boys’ boarding program in this state.

Phil has worked in boarding for the last 11 years and has served under three different Directors of Boarding. He has developed excellent connections with all sections of the boarding community during this time, which is complemented by his experience in all aspects of school life. Phil has at different times had specific responsibility for the activities and academic programs in boarding and has been Deputy Director for a number of years.

Phil's appointment has been very well-received by the boarding community. A strong boarding program is vital to the life and future of Prince Alfred College and we believe boarding will be in very good hands with Phil in charge. We congratulate Phil on this appointment and wish him well.

Show Day
Most in our community would be aware of the cancellation of this year’s Royal Adelaide Show. Given other recent disruptions, we will therefore not take the Show Day holiday, which is in accordance with what we did last year.
