Master Plan Update August 2025

News
7 August 2025

Welcome to our latest update on the progress of our Master Plan program at Prince Alfred College including a first look at our planned Multi-purpose Sports Field.

Preparatory School Redevelopment

We are now nearing the halfway point of our Preparatory School redevelopment and it is a thrill to see the shape of the new buildings come to life. The pour of the first floor concrete slab in both buildings is complete and the link bridges between the buildings are also in place. In the recent school holidays significant underground works were also completed to connect services from the Prep School down to the Pirie St transformers.

The project team are currently fine tuning the furniture selections for the classrooms, breakout spaces, staff facilities and function space. We are ensuring every piece is functional as well as in keeping with our design ethos. Final selections are also being made for the range of playground equipment that will be installed throughout the Preparatory School. Selections give consideration to the age of the boys in each area as well choosing items that will challenge and entertain boys in break times throughout the school day.

Below you can see the progress of the building in early August with the first floor frame being installed. You can view our latest time-lapse video of the Preparatory School redevelopment here.

Year 12 Work Experience

There are times when having a construction site on campus presents an opportunity! Year 12 student, Ben, recently spent two weeks immersed in the world of construction with our Preparatory School builders, Marshall & Brougham, as part of his SACE Community Studies assessment requirement.

Old Red and Managing Director of Marshall & Brougham, Andrew Marshall (PAC 1984), said of providing the opportunity, “The Old Scholar network can provide invaluable access and advice for students as they explore the careers they are considering. It is so important for students to have enthusiastic leaders to look up to in the work and career setting.”

Of the experience, Ben said, "I learned valuable new ways to communicate, and how to work in a team efficiently. I also gained new practical skills and built confidence in my chosen career pathway - either Construction Management at university or an apprenticeship in carpentry."

Thank you to Andrew and Hugh Marshall (PAC 2019), and Marshall & Brougham for supporting real-world learning and providing mentoring for the next generation of boys.

Multi-purpose Sports Field

We are pleased to share with you an early render of our vision for Stage 3 in our Master Plan - the Multi-purpose Sports Field. This new sports facility is located between the John Dunning Sports Centre and St Jacques. Whilst full usage planning is still in progress, it is intended that this grass sports field will primarily be used for PE lessons, soccer, and multi-purpose sports trainings.

The final designs are currently being developed to ensure the Multi-purpose Sports Field is well considered within the school, including preserving the heritage buildings surrounding the site.
