Preparatory School Redevelopment
For those of you who travel past Prince Alfred College along Dequetteville Terrace, you will have seen a significant step forward in our building progress. In early May our team visited Bianco Precast, a proud South Australian business, who are manufacturing 103 precast concrete panels for the exterior of the building. The first tranche of these were installed during a week of perfect weather conditions. This milestone has enabled us to see what the final shape of the two new buildings will soon look like.
In the last two weeks, we have seen significant scaffolding installed to the new buildings that will enable the concrete pour for the first floor to be undertaken.
Additional works in progress behind the scenes include further work on the landscaping including play equipment and planting selections, internal loose furniture selections and specification of the audio-visual equipment to learning and staff areas.
College Master Plan
Whilst our building team are underway on Stage 1, our operational teams are also progressing work on later stage projects of the Master Plan:
Stage 2 – Carpark
- Existing site investigation reports on the land behind the boarding house have been completed.
- The project team are reviewing procurement options and conducting reviews of prospective construction partners seeking expressions of interest.
Stage 3 – Multi-purpose Sports Field
- Site investigation reports at the proposed site adjacent to the John Dunning Sports Centre are complete and consultation with external authorities is ongoing.
- A sports field designer has been engaged and preliminary civil design completed.
- A separate design consultancy brief is in progress to manage the planning application process. This will ensure the design is well considered within the school, including preserving the heritage buildings surrounding the proposed site.
Stage 4 – Secondary School Development
- The College leadership team are in the early stages of scoping the requirements of the new build.
- Staff consultation has commenced to understand the use of our existing learning and pastoral facilities. The next phase will include further research to identify what our future requirements will be. Both of these will inform the design brief for the new learning environment located on the site of current staff carpark on the Pirie St driveway.
Later in the year we will provide an update on matters relating to the pastoral and academic programs of the College. Whilst our buildings are important, our students, staff and wider community will always be at the centre of everything we do.
