In our fourth episode of the Prince Alfred College Podcast, Year 12 students, Lachie and Charlie sit down with highly decorated long distance runner, Ms Jess Stenson (nee Trengove).
Jess has a close association with PAC with both her brother and father attending the College. Her mother, Mrs Deb Trengove, is a member of the Co-Curricular Sport department and Jess is also a parent in our ELC.
Of the recording experience, Year 12 Prefect, Lachie, shared “Before the recording I was very nervous as it was a new experience, but I was also excited to try something new and to meet such a respected athlete.”
Fellow Prefect, Charlie shared, “It was surprising how easy it is to do a podcast. Although it seemed daunting at first, once we started talking, the conversation expanded and became more meaningful for not just myself but hopefully for people who will listen.”
In the podcast Jess shares her journey from growing up in Naracoorte to the world stage of elite marathon running. She is generous in her insights into preparing physically and mentally for competition and how to recover safely afterwards.
The Trengove household was always a busy one with three children all with busy sporting schedules. Jess shares how even as a child her parents encouraged her to set goals, big and small, that prepared her well for her future her running career.
“Ms Stenson provided such valuable advice for managing stress in our co-curricular and academic endeavours, as well as in life. I felt very privileged to have had the opportunity to interview Ms Stenson,” said Lachie.
Jess also discusses how she balances her training and competition commitments with family and other activities. She shares how finding the right balance between enjoying what she does with the demands of competing at an elite level has enabled her to keep striving for improvement.
“Ms Stenson demonstrates excellence, not just through her remarkable achievements, but through her unwavering commitment to personal growth. Even whilst raising a young family, she continues to push boundaries and chase new personal bests. What truly sets her apart is her humility – she is so approachable and a true embodiment of our College values of Excellence and Endeavour,” said Charlie.
