Bring Your Own Device
Prince Alfred College operates a Bring Your Own Device program for students in years 7-12. This provides access to several ways for families to purchase and receive support for their student laptops.
Recommended Minimum Device Specifications:
- Apple MacBook Air (2020 or newer) with at least 256GB SSD storage
- Apple MacBook Pro (2018 or newer) with at least 256GB SSD storage
We have found that the 13" model is preferrable, as it is more mobile, lighter, and can fit in the school bag a little easier.
AppleCare+ for Mac
The College also recommends that new devices are purchased with AppleCare+ for Mac. AppleCare+ for Mac provides expert technical support and additional hardware coverage from Apple, including unlimited incidents of accidental damage protection. Each incident is subject to a service fee of A$149 for screen damage or external enclosure damage, or A$429 for other accidental damage. Coverage begins on your AppleCare+ purchase date.
More information about this is available here: https://www.apple.com/au/support/products/mac/
Purchasing options
You can visit www.apple.com/au/shop or your local Apple Store to purchase. To find your local Apple Store, visit www.apple.com/au/retail
Families also have the option of purchasing a MacBook from other retailers.
Other software
All necessary software for use on student laptops, including Anti-virus and Microsoft 365 for Mac, is provided by the College. Further details on how to setup your MacBook for school use will be sent to families when ready. For Term 1 starters, this is generally sent mid-January.
