In 1913 Clare Pitt entered the recently opened Prince Alfred College Preparatory School. He remained at the school until the end of his education in 1920. He then entered the School of Mines where he completed studies in electrical machinery management.
In January 1932 Clare Pitt married Louie Beatrice Hay, whose father was the Mayor of Mount Gambier. Clare and Louie had a property at Moorak, near Mount Gambier. Their only child Donald was tragically killed as a young man. Subsequently Clare and Louie bequeathed a large proportion of their estate to the Prince Alfred College Foundation for projects at the school. Following Louie’s death in 1999, funds from their estate enabled the development of Café Princes and the construction of the courtyard canopy in the Preparatory School.
Clare Pitt was a proud Old Red and until late in his life would travel to Adelaide for the monthly meetings of the Prince Alfred Old Collegian’s Lodge.
