Greg Chappell succeeded his brother, Ian, as Captain of the Australian XI in 1975, a position he held until the advent of World Series Cup Cricket in 1977. He resumed the captaincy in 1979 and remained in this position until his retirement in 1983.
Considered one of the most elegant and technically correct batsmen to have appeared for Australia, Greg played in 88 test matches, 46 as captain, with an average of 53.86 and highest score of 247. He played in 321 first class matches for an average of 52.20.
Following his retirement from cricket, Greg worked in the finance industry and with Channel 9 commentary team. Greg coached the South Australian cricket team for five seasons and is well known for his philosophy on healthy living.
