Ian Darnton-Hill is a specialist in public health and is at the forefront of promoting and improving child and maternal health, particularly through his work on public health nutrition with UNICEF. He held many advisory positions with UNICEF in the Child Survival and Nutrition division, at the organisation's headquarters in New York.
In 1989 he started his relationship with the World Health Organization as a medical officer/epidemiologist in the South Pacific region. Dr Darnton-Hill has more than 20 years’ experience in similar organisations throughout the world, and has worked in Bangladesh, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Zambia and the United States.
In addition to his work with UNICEF and WHO, he has worked with Helen Keller International, an international non-governmental organization, which works to alleviate the causes, and results, of blindness. Ian is a visiting associate professor at the Institute of Human Nutrition, Columbia University, New York and with the Australian Centre for International and Tropical Health and Nutrition, University of Queensland.
