John Bundey is the longest living former Captain of the School having held office in 1941. John is a third generation student at the school and his grandfather was a first day scholar in 1869.
During a busy medical career, Dr Bundey maintained his interest in the school through the Old Scholars’ Football Club and played in the 1946 A2 Premiership side, the first occasion Princes men won the flag. He also served as President of the PAOCA in 1973.
Today John Bundey’s special link with the school is through the remembrance of his brother Bill who was Captain of the School in 1934 and died as a prisoner of war at Sandakan in Borneo. His parents established The Bill Bundey Prize for Captain of the School in Bill’s memory. This link is also reflected in the Bill Bundey collection of books in the Chapple Library relating to World War Two experiences in South East Asia.
