Lewis Dawe’s passion was for choral music, and throughout his life he was an active participant, teacher and promoter. In 1938 he won the Australasian Vocal Championship held in Ballarat, then toured Australia in the Student Prince for JC Williamson’s opera company. Ten years later in 1948 he founded the Adelaide Harmony Choir and remained its conductor until 1981. For approximately twenty-five years he served as the choirmaster at Methodist Ladies College (now Annesley College) and Maughan Church, Adelaide. As a singer he gave many performances around Australia for the ABC.
