Mervyn Evans made a century in the 1923 Intercol cricket and in 1925 was Captain of the School and Dux. He studied dentistry and represented the university in athletics, cricket and football. He gained his Doctorate in Dentistry and later became President of the SA Dental Association and Vice-President of the Australian Dental Association.
The School benefited from the wisdom and encyclopaedic knowledge of Mervyn Evans in many ways: he served for 27 years on the College Council (10 as deputy chairman), 57 years on the committee of the PAOCA (President in 1946), and as a Trustee of the PAC Foundation. He was a life member of the PAOCA Football Club and wrote its history in 1985. Mervyn Evans attended every Speech Night from 1916 to 1987. On his death in 1987 The Chronicle commented 'From the time he entered the preparatory school in 1916 he maintained a link with this School that can only ever be marvelled at as a truly incredible action of loyalty and commitment'.
