Rodney Maynard, a boarder from Lameroo, was vice-captain of the Ist XVIII in 1983 (a side that included future league players Kym Russell and Craig Kelly). The Chronicle described him as 'a player with great potential'.
Rodney made his SANFL debut for Norwood in 1984 at the age of 17, playing mainly in the reserves team before becoming a regular in the league team in 1987. He played 157 games, won the coveted best and fairest award and was selected for the stage squad.
The Adelaide Crows played their first season in 1991 and Rodney Maynard was a member of the inaugural team, playing 81 games for the Crows before retiring at the end of 1995.
